I recently took over the traffic exchange Half Hour a Day. It currently has nearly 2,000 members, and it is growing each day. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, and found out just how easy it wasn’t. Even though there is already a large member list, it doesn’t make it any easier. If you plan on starting a new exchange, don’t expect members to just flood in without any work.

Many of the current members were not very active, and there were a lot of unused credits there. So, I started to email the members and give them a few tips, and created a dialogue with some of them. I instantly started seeing some great results. More members were becoming active again.

I then started a weekly contest. The top surfer of the week gets to have their links displayed in a Member Spotlight. I have had a good response from that too. This is really going to get the exchange going again.

Within the next couple weeks, the script will be updated. It will then have more contests available, and even more features for members. After the update, Half Hour a Day is going to get a facelift.

Being an active member of many traffic exchanges over the last few years, I have a firm grasp of what makes an exchange appealing to surfers. I am going to apply all of that knowledge, and work towards making the site one of the top exchanges on the net.

Something occurred to me recently. Not all marketers really know how to do all the work required to create squeeze pages, create tracking and cloaking links, publish video, and other internet stuff which will help them become profitable. Most of this I had to spend hours on the computer figuring out. When I post articles or send out information, I work under the assumption that people already know or can figure this stuff out. Well, I probably shouldn’t assume these things. You know what happens when you assume things.

So, you tell me what you need to know. I won’t tell you that I am an expert at HTML or PHP. But, I will tell you that I understand enough of it to do what I need to do. With that said, send some questions my way. Even if I don’t know all the answers, I will find out, or show you where to go.

My goal with this blog is to give people the tools to make money online without spending their life savings. You shouldn’t have to give your money to people who just want you to buy their newest and coolest product. If you have the right tools, you will need very little money to get your business off the ground.

There are three main pages being shown in traffic exchanges, going from best to worst:

1. Personal squeeze or lead capture pages
2. Affiliate splash pages
3. Affiliate links

I would never put up affiliate links in rotation. They are very ineffective. There is just too much information.

The best is to display personal squeeze, or lead capture, pages. You will then be able to promote your programs to your subscribers. This is the  best option, especially when you build a large list of subscribers.

Affiliate splash pages, the splash pages that your affiliate programs provide, can be effective if used properly. In traffic exchanges, you only have a brief moment to capture your visitor’s attention. You need to have a way for your ad to stand out. This is where personal branding comes in.

I do like to promote my programs in traffic exchanges to supplement my email campaigns. In that case, I like to use personal branding. The best site that I have found that does that for you is Vital Viral Pro. You can enter each of your sites and place your picture and a short testimonial on every affiliate splash page that you promoting. Now, when visitors start recognizing your face, they will be more inclined to click on your ad.

You can also set up rotators to group like campaigns to maximize your available sites in your traffic exchanges.

The biggest names in traffic exchanges have released a new ebook called TE Listbuilding. I had to check it out, and was pretty impressed with how complete it is. There is a lot of information that hasn’t been released until now. It is packed with information on how to build your list. In detail, they discuss things like the difference between squeeze and splash pages, the sales funnel, autoresponders, graphic, and anything else related to it.

First of all, I should define a list builder. A list builder is an email based traffic exchange. Instead of surfing at a traffic exchange, you open up other members’ email and click their links for credit. In turn, you can email your offer and lead capture page to all the other members.

I highly recommend that you track your email subject lines with a tracker such as Hits Connect. Some members will only open the emails that interest them. Using a tracker will help you find the best subject line that is leading members to open your email. In turn, you will find many new subscribers for your personal list and buyers for your great products.

You can put up a squeeze page, splash page, ad copy, or anything to capture the attention of your customers. But, how do you know if you are truly converting as well as you can? The answer is: Testing, testing, and more testing. Compare the results of two or three pages, choose the best, and test it against a new version.

All have both free and premium memberships. The free memberships work well if you have only a couple campaigns. Anything more than that I would highly recommend the premium membership. Not only can you track many more campaigns, they all offer even more tools.

You actually may be surprised at the results. What you think is the most attractive page may be repulsive to 90% of your viewers (of course sometimes it may work in your favor). You’ll never know unless you track your pages. Raising your conversions by just 1% is worth the time.
